OUR PROJECTS

Our projects involve funding university students to further their studies of Ancient Greek & to support students who are participating in field work for the AAIA dig sites.

Over the 37 years of our operations, QFAAIA has funded many students  for work at Torone, Cyprus, Andros  & Kythera.

Our 2023 project has been announced. We are funding the Summer Scholar Research Program for the R.D.Milns Antiquities Museum. Our gift will fund a student for a ten week research project involving the use of the museum collection. The funds will provide assistance for five years, 2024-2028. We are extremely proud of our choice of gift and look forward meeting the students and seeing the fruits of their labour.

What is QFAAIA?

The Queensland Friends were established in 1986 by members of the academic staff and students in the department of Classics & Ancient History. The job of the QFAAIA was to promote the work of the AAIA within the University of Queensland & the wider Brisbane community.

The group also forged links to the Brisbane's Greek community which then created the Greek Community Archaeological Scholarship. QFAAIA's additional role is to raise funds to support AAIA activities in Greece such as archaeological field work.

With the Greek scholarship established, a UQ student was selected to participate in the AAIA dig at Torone, northern Greece in 1987.
