Our first function for the year was a chance to meet the R.D. Milns Antiquities Museum Summer Scholar Project recipient, Imogen Walsh. We also welcomed Fiona Beavis, the Arts Faculty Advancement & Community Engagement Officer.

Associate Professor Pritchard was our guest speaker and he presented his new research into the 'Cadetship of Classical Athens'.

Watch out for our May function. A first for QFAAIA. We will host the 'Mare Nostrum', an Ancient Historical Society presenting enactments. Their show will feature hoplites with armour and weapons. Not to be missed!!

Imogen will be our guest speaker at the AGM in July. And the AAIA Gale Visiting Professor has been announced; Tyler Jo Smith D.Phil., FSA, Professor of Classical Art and Archaeology at the University of Virginia. There she is the Director of the Interdisciplinary Archaeology Program.

What is QFAAIA?

The Queensland Friends were established in 1986 by members of the academic staff and students in the department of Classics & Ancient History. The job of the QFAAIA was to promote the work of the AAIA within the University of Queensland & the wider Brisbane community.

The group also forged links to the Brisbane's Greek community which then created the Greek Community Archaeological Scholarship. QFAAIA's additional role is to raise funds to support AAIA activities in Greece such as archaeological field work.

With the Greek scholarship established, a UQ student was selected to participate in the AAIA dig at Torone, northern Greece in 1987.
