About the event
In 335 BC, the Classical Athenians created a full time training program for new soldiers. No other Greek state had ever had such a cadetship for 18-19 year olds. The century that followed saw the Greek world in general enthusiastically embrace such training for their own ephebes. This richly illustrated lecture tackles the three hot debates about this fascinating Athenian invention. Presented by David M Pritchard, lecturer in Greek History at University of Queensland and author of several books on Athenian warfare.
